Wayne was retired from the State of Michigan and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. During his lifetime, he enjoyed racing super modified cars and motorcycles. He also enjoyed fishing.
Wayne Root raced Supermodifieds in the 60's. I watched him at my old hometrack Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan but they stopped racing the supermods in 1966 and I lost track of Wayne. I wish I had more info on his career as I'm trying to get him into the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame, but he seemed to be a very private person and likely wouldn't want it. . . . written by Pete Banchoff |
