GAREAU TAKES SECOND STRAIGHT

Oswego, NY - Tim Gareau picked up his second consecutive win at Oswego Speedway in the supermodified division Saturday night. Gareau started seventh, worked his way by early race leader Todd Stowell on lap 12, and held off Stowell throughout the race enroute to his eighth career win at Oswego.

Ray Graham and Doug Boisvert started the race from the front row, with Stowell starting inside the second row. When the green flag came out to start the race, Stowell make the inside move off the fourth turn, and grabbed the early lead. Gareau brought his black #5 car to the inside to come to the front early, while Howie Page, Bob Goutermout and Jerry Curran chose the high side of the track to work their way to the front.

By lap 5, Stowells laps around the 17.42 mark help built up a four car length advantage over second running Boisvert. Gareau worked his 5 car up to third, while Shannon Groves, Ray Graham, Jerry Curran, Howie Page, Bob Goutermout, Dave Trytek and Greg Furlong rounded out the top ten at this early portion of the race.

Gareau moved to the inside of Boisvert as they raced down the front straightaway, and took over second place on lap six, five lengths behind leader Stowell. The front two cars broke away from the third place battle by eight lengths, as they raced for the lead.

Gareau bided his time for a couple of laps, then made the move for the lead on lap 12. He pulled his black #5 to the inside on the front straightaway, and the drag race was on for the lead. Whoever made it to the first turn ahead, would be the leader. Gareau nosed his way in front, but Stowell kept his foot in it on the outside. Gareau came away with the lead, and timed in a 17.41 his first lap in the lead.

The leaders came into lapped traffic for the first time on lap 14, which they handled with ease. Gareau built up a four car length advantage over Stowell, who in turn held the same distance over third running Boisvert. The fifth place race now caught fans attention as Curran and Furlong were racing wheel to wheel for the spot in the best battle on the track at this juncture.

Gareau built a comfortable lead in the next few laps as he came into heavy traffic. He wheeled his machine both inside and outside of the slower cars, showing he had a very good handling car on this race night. Stowell began to cut the lead in the slower cars, as it was now down to about a six car length lead.

The first yellow flag of the event acme out on lap 27, which also quickly brought out the red flag. A multi car wreck occurred between the third and fourth turns, which resulted a blocked race track, and involved 8 cars. It appeared that fluid leak on one of the lapped cars made the race surface greasy. The 55 car bobbled, and the jam up occurred from there. The cars of Roger Clark, Otto Sitterly, Howie Page, and third running Doug Boisvert(considerable front end damage) were done for the rest of the race, while Brian Sweeney, Dave Trytek, Shannon Groves, and Greg Furlong returned to the race. Furlong and Groves went to the pits for repairs, and returned after the red flag.

There was a lapped car between Gareau and Stowell on the restart, and Gareau used that to build a quick lead once racing again. Stowell began to reel in the 5 car, and pulled to the outside of Gareau on lap 30, and looked for the lead. As he did this, the yellow flag came out, this time for a Vern LaFave spin just as he exited the fourth turn.

Stowell again looked to the outside on the restart, but Gareau held him off. Mean while a little further back, Curran was running comfortably in third place, with Bob Goutermout just behind in fourth. Trytek recovered from his spin, and had the 70 car in the top five as well.

Back up front, Gareau stopped watches at the 17.38 and 17.34 mark, and gradually pulled out. The last few laps remained caution free, and Gareau picked up his second consecutive win, this time by 1.45 seconds over Stowell. Curran held on for a fine third place finish, with Goutermout claiming fourth. Trytek had his best finish of the year with fifth.

"The car was really handling good tonight, " Gareau said after the victory. "I just owe it all to my crew. They are really awesome. They do alot of work to it, maintaining it. We didnt change anything. I had to fight through traffic a little bit. It really handled. It went anywhere I put it. "
