MIKE MULDOON TWO FOR TWO WITH SPEC ENGINE

Oswego, NY - Last week Mike Muldoon had to revert to a backup car housing an Oswego spec head motor because of mechanical failure. This week he opted to use the 35 while his brother Shawn drove the 50, and once again it took him to victory. The win, Muldoon's third this year, carries a $400 bonus from Brodix, Inc., who manufactures the heads.

Muldoon grabbed the lead from Tim Gareau on lap 16 and was on his way to victory. Both Gareau and Greg Furlong periodically challenged Muldoon, but Furlong's 72 overheated and Gareau's 5 slipped up in some oil, causing him to falter.

Said Muldoon after the victory, "The car was great. The spec motor did a great job. You know it's a great race when you can have a spec motor win a race. I'd like to thank Doug Holmes, Davey Hamilton and my sponsors. Hopefully, we'll get to use the car a couple more times this year. I didn't know who was behind me. I was just racing. You don't know until somebody shows you a wheel how fast you can go. It's a great win for our team."

Bob Bond took the lead of the Wendy's supermodified 45 from the green, but Todd Stowell quickly moved up to steal the point by lap 4. Tim Gareau followed suit and he was the leader on lap 6, but never far from Stowell's 89.

Yellow flew on lap 10 when the 46 of Canadian Mark VanLuven did a 360 and eventually headed pitside.

Gareau was off like a shot on the green, but his challenger was now Muldoon who had jumped Stowell on the green. Behind Todd, Greg Furlong, Jeff West and Howard Page waged an intense war.

On lap 16, Muldoon put the 35 by the 5 of Gareau off turn four and never looked back for behind him some serious racing was going on. Gareau, Furlong, Stowell, Page and West swapped spots back and forth while Bob Bond, Bob Goutermout and Doug Boisvert waited patiently for holes to open.

Greg Furlong was a man on the move as the laps ticked away. He was soon by Gareau for second and lap after lap, he cut into the distance Muldoon held out front. By lap 35, Furlong was prepared to show Muldoon that proverbial wheel, when the yellow flew for the 18 of Howard Page, who had been running a close sixth to Bob Goutermout.

Furlong's car, during the yellow, showed signs of overheating and track officials had it pulled in for a check-over.

On the green, it was now Muldoon, Gareau, Stowell, West and Goutermout, but in the very next circuit, Gareau bobbled but held on, losing a couple spots in the process. Said Tim later, "I should have had second, but it was real slick over there in the turn and I shot into it and I was all over. I just couldn't hold it down. We're still plugging away. I want to win one. We want to win one."

The remaining eight laps saw Muldoon pull away from Stowell who was just ahead of Jeff West at the finish. Gareau and Goutermout finished up the top five. For Stowell, second was a godsend after a warm-up accident almost put him out of the action. Said Stowell, "I'll tell you, I think we had like a fourth or fifth place car tonight. But a couple guys fell out and we got another second. I'm happy to have two consistent runs. We got in a jingle in warmups and I really think that threw something off in the front end. So, we salvaged a second and now we can get it back to the garage and look it over. Thanks again to everyone who makes this all possible for me. I really appreciate it. I hope soon we get a win for everybody!"

Third place finisher, West, concurred with Stowell estimation of how the race went, "We had about a seventh place car tonight. It was really good early and then at the end it started coming on. There in the middle, I don't know if there was a lot of oil out there or what. I know I hit the same thing as Timmy(Gareau) did and I was just sliding around. It's too bad that happened to Tim. He was running a good race. Too bad Greg(Furlong) overheated. It should have been good racing for the fans and that's what counts."

NOTES: Todd Stowell, Howard Page, Doug Boisvert and Jerry Curran were affected by a warm-up accident that had Stowell and Page doing a lot of repairs early in the evening. Boisvert opted to drive his backup and Curran was not damaged by the incident...In a heat, Tim Snyder took a hard ride down the backstretch wall, doing enormous damage to his #0. Snyder was not hurt...A massive pileup in the second limited heat also affected about half the ten-car field.
