Today Around 5 pm (Wed Dec 9 2020), the Supermodified family lost another great wheelman! Al Wood aka Bob Hunter, went home to be with our Lord God! You see Al Wood and My Dad were very close and good friends, so much so that he became Uncle Al to us kids. Uncle Al and my dad, worked at Elyria Auto service together. Uncle Al would have to sneak my dad into the pits at some tracks, cause my dad wasn’t old enough to get in there. Uncle Al, My Dad, Paul Barnes, Bill, and Dave Wood, were all a part of a great team with an Awesome driver. Now they are all together again racing in Heaven!
RIP UNCLE AL, we all learned a lot from you and your ways! I’ll never forget 1976, my first classic, as it was your last classic as a driver! I will always remember going camping with you guys in Michigan, and you asked me, why do you walk with your head down, pick it up before you run into someone! I will always remember leaving Lorain County Speedway, and stopping at Kenny Kings Kentucky fried chicken, for a burger and chocolate milk! I watched you drive many cars! #39, 2 versions of it, #62 out of Worthington, Oh, the #54, A rear engine car once, can’t remember the number, and the #09. Love you Uncle Al, and I’ll miss you! You will always be in my heart and on my mind! You will always be my favorite Supermodified driver! Thoughts and Prayers to Uncle Al’s family and friends!
