Last saturday nights feature race was certainly one of the most exciting in the long history of the Oswego Speedway. An almost "accident-free" night highlighted the racing which ended shortly after ten o'clock.

When the green flag came down, there was the usual mad scramble for the front. Andy Brown with the Holynski Brothers car 19, jumped off to the early lead but could not open up much on the rest of the field. Along came the 04 of Bob Stelter and Fred Graves in the 37 to claim the number one and two spots early in the race. In the meantime, Andy began falling off the pace and then on lap 11, blew the engine in the second turn. In the mix-up, Ron Gamble brushed the outside wall and both cars were forced to sit out for the balance of the program.

On the restart, both Stelter and Graves had their hands full as Ken Andrews, Norm Mackereth, Nolan Swift and Jim Shampine came on in that order to challenge. Andrews got by and into the lead first but the 10pins, 40, and 8ball slid by the early leaders and now the real battle began. The top four pointmen in the race for track honors were all out front. Swift was the first to make a move on Andrews, but Norm and Jimmy were right there ready to take advantage of any little mistake. Finally, on lap 29, Swifty got by Andrews but could not open up as the four cars raced together for the rest of the race.

At the finish, the entire grandstand stood to see Nolan Swift come across the line first, with Ken Andrews no more than a car length back for second. And right behind them Jimmy Shampine nipped Norm Mackereth for third. Norm finished fourth. Canadian Harv Lennox again turned in another good performance and rounded out the fifth spot with car 70. Bobby Stelter took a solid sixth with his Solvay Automotive Special 04, with Fred Graves driving his best feature race ever, bringing the new Marsh 37 home seventh.

Other feature finishers in order were: Nolan Johncock 7, John Clapham 4S, Nick Rowe 12, Ron Wallace 90, Mark Letcher 29, Bob Seelman 74, Bernie Grant 17, Jim Muldoon 23, Joe Hlywka 9, Andy Brown 19, Ron Gamble 00, Red Barnhart S, Howie Hammond 8O, Ron Buckner 36, Jim Wink,; 01, Darrell Peckham 44 and Steve Miller 16.

Heats were won by Swift and Shampine, with Swift and Mackereth taking the semis. Johncock won the consi.
